Non-Bounded Fodder

Cold emails with non-definite, non-bounded, open ended questions are fodder for the trash can.

There’s a lot of cold emails coming in to everyone’s email inbox every day. There is a small sliver of emails that are worth your attention, that can elicit a response; positive or negative.

But the majority of the emails, and I am not talking about newsletters but emails written directly to you or a very small audience of just a few people, are overlooked continuously.

Assuming the inquiry, opportunity or offer is compelling, why are the emails failing to get a response?

All of the emails exhibit the same three traits:
1. They are non-definite — It’s a long rambling email that doesn’t cover any specific topic and doesn’t contain any actionable request.
2. They are non-bounded — The request is too large. Nobody wants to commit a huge amount of time and energy to a cold email.
3. They are open-ended — Emails that end with “Let’s set up a call to chat.” or “Let’s set up a call to catch up.” or “What do you think?” or “Can you provide me with feedback?” are the death knell. Talk about a weak finish.
