Software Snake Oil Sales

Removing all the cruft and bloatware from a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad we just purchased. At the completion of uninstalling the Intel AppUp software the uninstaller pops open a browser window for me to fill out a survey of why I am uninstalling the software.

Oh, I don’t know… maybe because you closed the fucking Intel AppUp store 18 months ago and no longer support any of the apps you tricked people into purchasing.

Just a guess.

Anybody who studies markets, processes and product development could have predicted that the Intel AppUp app store would be dead within five years of launch.

You can always tell whether a technology or market initiative will have longevity by determining whether the company is making it part of their core, or are just making a land grab. If it’s not part of their core — truly integrated so that their business could not survive without it — then it will be dead inside of five years.
